Both refined and modern, the Swirl collection features a sculptural and sophisticated construction that explores the notion of balance. Very graphic, this vase consists of an asymmetrical stack of geometric shapes that play the equilibrists. The massive and unstructured silhouette gives a sense of precarious balance that is only apparent. Tom Dixon pursues artistic research inspired by post-consumer processes, the waste phenomenon and its management, and the recycling practices of used materials. The Swirl collection consists of a material imitating marble, made from industrial waste: recycled marble powder from sawmills. This powder is mixed with coloured pigments and resin. The material is then cut and turned by hand. The marbled pattern is a superb mineral decoration.
